Today was my first day of work at Buffalo. Did mostly paperwork and flew a bit in the simulator.

Wednesday, March 26, 2008: The damn alarm went off at 4am. By 4:30, we were on the road headed north toward Kamloops, through Jasper National Park to High Level, Alberta. This was a long uneventful 16 hour drive with temperatures dropping the further north we went. Nothing much to report on the town of High Level where we spent the night (mostly a hotel strip).

Thursday, March 27, 2008: This morning we slept in a little because we were already more than halfway to Yellowknife. Both of us were looking forward to the crossing of the Mackenzie River Ice Road. The locals refer to it as the Ice Bridge. There is no bridge spanning the Mackenzie River near Fort Providence on Highway 3. From mid-May to ice-up, a ferry transports all vehicles. The ice road was very impressive and well maintained. After the ice road, it was time to watch out for Buffalo. They usually like to come and hang out on the highway. As luck would have it, we did not have a single sighting. We rolled into Yellowknife at 3pm local time, tour of the city done at 3:20pm.

Why Yellowknife ?

So it all started when Dan had an interview with Buffalo Airways at the end of March 2008. To Dan’s surprise he was offered a job on site with a starting date ASAP (thanks Marc V., former Buffalo pilot).

Two weeks later we loaded up the CRV and headed north, leaving the warm Okanagan Valley for the bitter cold Yellowknife. While moving Dan to Yellowknife, I managed to squeeze in an interview at Stanton Territorial Hospital. I then flew back to Kelowna, leaving Dan in the cold.
